Artist Statement:
Drawing has always been a crucial part of my ethos as a visual artist - it is where all ideas are conceived. All my initial concepts start at this developmental stage, with pencil and black ink drawings. My intention is to strip the idea back to its raw form or framework. The absence of colour helps me focus on composition, line-work and creating grids for geometric shapes.

For me, drawing is a daily ritual or mantra, where I am able to let go of my surroundings and focus on generating ideas through visual communication and problem solving. I invoke the Muse.

For this figurative series, I have focused on the feminine form as the subject for exploration - The ‘Idol’. This classical subject-matter has been a primary focus for artists over a millennia. In a traditional sense, I like the challenge of reinterpreting the female form - manipulating its curves and abstracting its structure.

From my recent years being based in Malta, I have been inspired by the Neolithic temples and ancient megaliths that are scattered throughout these Mediterranean islands. The figurative forms in my Ink Drawings, have been inspired by the Venus-like statues of Fertility Goddesses, discovered in these ancient temples.
